Integration of a microcontroller in a redundant power supply for space applications

Position Overview:

We are offering an exciting opportunity for a student to join our team and contribute to the integration of a microcontroller in a redundant power supply system for space applications. The project involves enhancing an existing power supply by developing a multi-channel system, automating configuration processes, and implementing a defined communication protocol with an On-Board Computer (OBC).

Tasks:

  • Design and develop a multi-channel power supply system to replace the existing single-channel setup.

  • Automate configuration processes using a microcontroller and develop a compact PCB design.

  • Implement functionality to enable power supply channels to be turned on in a specific order.

  • Identify and select the most suitable microcontroller for the project considering space constraints and cost limitations.

  • Develop a defined communication protocol for seamless integration with the On-Board Computer (OBC).

Required Skills:

  • Proficiency in PCB development.

  • Basic understanding of DC power electronics.

  • Strong programming skills in C and experience with microcontroller programming.

  • Familiarity with low-level communication protocols such as UART, I2C, or SPI is preferred but not mandatory.

Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.

  • Previous experience with hardware development and microcontroller programming is advantageous.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with excellent problem-solving skills.

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to document and present work effectively.

Duration and Location:

  • This position is available as a Bachelor's/Master's thesis project or internship.

  • The duration and location of the position can be flexible based on the candidate's availability and circumstances.

Application Instructions:

Interested candidates are encouraged to submit their resume, cover letter, and any relevant reference or project work to personal@em-munich.de. Please include "Integration of Microcontroller in Power Supply" in the subject line of your email.

We look forward to welcoming a motivated student to our team and working together to advance space technology innovation. Join us in shaping the future of space exploration!
