Smart Processing and Power Module (SPPM): A Next-Generation Solution for Space Missions


We present our updated design combining the modules SPM and SPS into a Smart Processing and Power Module (SPPM). The Smart Processing and Power Module (SPPM) is an advanced modular hardware stack that integrates the Smart Processing Module (SPM) and Secondary Power Supply (SPS). Built around Microchip's PolarFire SoC FPGA, the SPM combines 4 RISC-V cores, an integrated FPGA, and 2 GB of shared RAM for efficient processing and dynamic reconfiguration on orbit. Designed for radiation tolerance and low power consumption, the SPPM supports a range of high-data-rate applications like Earth Observation, offering real-time onboard processing for tasks such as image analysis. Its flexible architecture and robust design make it an ideal choice for next-generation space missions requiring adaptable, data-intensive operations.
